Netherlands

In 2000, the Dutch government established a National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings and Sexual Violence against Children. The National Rapporteur is an independent body that reports to the Dutch Parliament and is an independent position which is legally embedded. The National Rapporteur’s main task is to report on the nature and extent of human trafficking (and sexual violence against children) in the Netherlands, and on the effects of government policy pursued. The National Rapporteur’s reports contain information on relevant regulations and legislation, as well as information on prevention, criminal investigations, prosecution of perpetrators, and victim support. The National Rapporteur collects and analyses statistical data from various stakeholders. Reports also contain policy recommendations aimed at improving the fight against human trafficking.
